Cheers! From Mt Vernon’s Skagit River Brewery

The bar at Skagit River Brewing

Today we are doing a little trip around Whidbey Island and over to Port Townsend. But, we decided to grab lunch at Skagit River Brewery to try the BBQ wings that I have heard so much about.

Skagit River is right off of I-5 in the small town of Mt. Vernon. We recently did a story on Mt Vernon’s Empire, a local bar. Unfortunately, I am posting today from my phone, so I cannot post links. But if you are intrigued, you can find the Empire post by searching above or scanning through this week’s earlier posts.

I will say that the wings here at Skagit River are above average. The chicken is smoked on the wood fired grill, leaving it lush and juicy. The sauce is okay, but it could use some spice, pepper or tangy flavoring.

On tap today is Skagit’s Watou Belgian Ale. I have heard a lot of good things about, especially from Beer Blotter writer, Timperial Stout. The reviews were spot on – it’s damn good. The beer has a rich caramel nose, with a spicy Belgian yeast flavor that truly mimics the flavor of authentic Belgian bruins. Nice work guys!

For now, we head north. See you later.

Thanks for checking out the wings. I too am a wing connoisseur and have had these on my radar since you eluded to them in your earlier post. I’m planning a beer hike in and around Mt. Vernon (lots of in-city trails!) and will definitely make it a point to stop here.

By the way, I was sitting right next to you at Collins last night and didn’t even know it (while you were drinking the Gonzo.) My blogger sense was tingling when you were playing with your phone, but I wasn’t sure so I didn’t say anything. The same thing happened when Angelo of Brewpublic was in town last month. I saw him outside Brouwer’s but wasn’t sure it was him until I saw some of his pictures later that day.

    Comedy!
