Bacon Beer, You Say? Odin Brewing Gives It a Go

Its Bacon!

I’ve heard about it before, but I never got to try it. Looks like I’m getting another chance.

Bacon beer is coming. At a time when eating green is all the rage, bacon has somewhat survived. Bacon salt, bacon oil, bacon ice cream, bacon chocolate, bacon cupcakes and even bacon vodka! People have some unexplained passion for the scent of hog.

While you might have thought your Rauchbier was bacon-enough, the people at Odin Brewing are taking it a step further. They have released a new seasonal, called Smoky Bacon Beer. The new grog is 6% and is already being poured at places like Brouwers Cafe and the Pub at Piper’s Creek.

Check out their press release below, to find out more:

Odin Brewing Company Seasonal Release:  Smoky Bacon Ale

Odin Brewing Company is proud to introduce its latest seasonal creation, Smoky Bacon Ale!  Brewed with real bacon and peat smoked malt, this unfiltered brown ale is a well-balanced, drinkable brew that isn’t any where near to being one-dimensional.  At 6.0% ABV, Smoky Bacon Ale will send your palate to a Viking feast, while being gobbled down easy enough you’ll be craving seconds.

Barbeques generate their excitement through the aromas wafting through the air, and our Smoky Bacon Ale is no different.  An aroma of deep rich smoke with a hint of sweetness will get the party started.  A balanced top note of smoke and sweet maltiness leads well into the caramel and coffee flavors that begin to arise as the beer goes down.  A slightly nutty flavor accentuates the smoothness of the mouthfeel as a medium bitterness from the hops round out this beer.

Introduced at the Tacoma Craft Beer Festival, Smoky Bacon Ale received a warm welcome from the crowd and is being distributed around the Seattle area as you read this.  So get out there, order a pint of Smoky Bacon Ale, and join the feast!  Currently being poured at Brouwer’s Café, Clever Dunnes Irish Pub and Pub at Piper’s Creek, with several more locations like Quinn’s Pub (10/8), The Iron Bull (10/8), and Naked City Brewery &Taphouse (10/14) yet to come.

Odin Brewing Company is a new, local microbrewery whose mission is to continuously elevate the microbrewery experience.  Look us up on Facebook and follow along on our voyage throughout beerdom.  We are located at 9130 15th Pl. Ste. F Seattle, WA.  Thank you for all your support!

I just read about this today on Washington Beer Blog as well! This is very interesting…don’t know if you guys had/have had a chance to try Redhook’s Meathook, but I’m guessing it’s a little like this? Not sure, but I actually quite enjoyed the Meathook (more like a slightly smokey dark lager than anything else). Wonder how long it’s going to be at Clever Dunnes, might have to wander over there and try it.

Thanks for the write up on this as well! Cheers guys.

We haven’t had a chance to try it, but we are always up for experimental and innovative brews. Odin is up and coming as a well respected, local micro-brew. Can’t wait to see what they have to offer in the future and to try the bacon beer!
